Dr. Wilbur (Bill) and Ruthie Thain, long time residents of Cache Valley, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 17, 2011. Bill and Ruthie met during their medical training at the Los Angles County Hospital. They were married at Bill's parent's home outside of Los Angles, California.
Bill was born in Cache Valley and raised in Los Angles. Ruthie was born and raised in Arizona. Bill and Ruthie and their two oldest children, Karen and David, moved to Cache Valley in 1955 to begin a busy medical practice. Bill better known as "Doc Thain" was a General Practitioner in the valley delivering thousands of babies (his peak year was 300 babies), treating broken bones, runny noses and dispensing old style advice. Bill was also instrumental in establishing the Exceptional Child Center, now the Center for Persons with Disabilities. They relocated to California and then Phoenix Arizona in the mid 80s where Bill became the Medical Director for FH! P's Nevada Division. Ruthie was an avid sportswoman. She raised several Quarter Horses who excelled winning numerous awards and championships. She was also a member of the Logan LDS Hospital Board and actively supported formation of Sky View High School. During the thirty years Bill and Ruthie resided in Cache Valley they were actively involved in the community through the ELKS association, Logan Dance Club, and other community development services. Many Cache Valley residents will remember great times at the Rockin-R stables and arena.
They are the parents of four children: Karen (Rod Curtis), David (Jari), Susan (Ross Olsen), and Paul (Geishaye) and cherish their time with their grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends during their summer visits to Logan. Dad and Mom have finally retired and are living outside of Logan, UT.
